課程概述 |
This course is designed to examine in detail research issues in the field of the social determinants of health (SDH) using the relative income hypothesis as an example. It firstly presents the emergence of relative income hypothesis, then discuss the criticisms of early research, followed by scrutinizing recent literature reviews. It further presents Wilkinson’s framework for studying the impact of income inequality on the health of population. Finally, it draws lessons for SDH research.population. 課程目標 |
At the end of this course students should be able to:
1. discuss the relative income hypothesis;
2. describe major research milestones of relative income hypothesis; and
3. apply lessons learnt from the case of relative income hypothesis to other SDH research.

課程要求 |
This course meets for two hours, once a week and is conducted mainly as a participatory seminar. Students are expected to read the required readings and prepare a short critique before the class. There will be a 10-15 page seminar paper, due June 8, 2006, on lessons for SDH research. Students will be graded according to their performance in short critque (20%), class discussion (50%), and seminar paper (30%). |
